Situation : In the south-east
of Spain, in the region of Murcia, by the Mediterranean.
Geographical co-ordinates
: 1-20 West and 37-40 North.
Area : 318 square kilometres.
Population: 18,000 inhabitants.

hour 5 mins. San Javier (Murcia) 1 hour. Almeria 2 hours.
Climate : Mild winters
and warm summers. Average annual temperature approximately
18.5C. Sunny days per year - approximately 320 days.

Landscape/Agriculture:
Coastal - Mediterranean sea (temperatures
above), mostly sandy beaches, bays and coves, some pebble
beaches and rocky cliffs of ochre and various coloured mineral
deposits. Profusion of marine life and fauna. Several nudist
beaches.
Inland - Mazarron area is a dry plain,
enclosed by low mountain ranges and crossed by a wide dry
river bed with ramblers (tributaries).
Almond, carob, pomegranate, orange and
lemon groves are interspersed with cultivated areas of vineyards,
tomato, lettuce, peppers, melon and cucumber. Natural vegetation
comprises lavender, thyme, rosemary, juniper, fig, palms and
various species of pine (reforested).
The water for irrigation is extracted from
underground and from the most modern plants for desalination
of seawater.
Fishing : Coastal fishing
- sardines, anchovies shellfish and tuna fishing. The area
is a major supplier and exporter of fish.
Tourism : Is the second
major source of wealth after agriculture and fishing, although,
during the summer season, the Spanish, rather than other Europeans,
make up the largest proportion of tourism.
Cities, Towns, Villages and Culture
: Some of Spain's most handsome and historic cities and towns
are within easy reach. Murcia provincial capital - Cartagena
historical seaport - Lorca textiles and ceramics. En route
to these cities there are many traditional Spanish towns and
villages, all with their own markets and local culture.
Transport and Traveling
: Local buses, trains and roads give good quality connections
to Murcia, Cartagena, Alicante, Lorca, Madrid, Granada and
the south coast of Spain. |
